Experiences

I love using quantitative thinking and data at hand to answer Economic questions (primarily healthcare related). I hope to understand how to incorporate machine learning concepts and techniques in answering these questions.

Research

Undergraduate Research Assistant, UCSD Undergraduate-Graduate Economics Research Lab (Jan. 2024 - Present)

Supervisor: Philip Hoxie

Food Aid Project (Currently in progress)

  • Worked with another undergrad RA to clean datasets consisted of food aid delivery predictors of USAID using R.

  • Imputing missing values and creating data quality flags in the following datasets and aggregating to the country level.

    • EM-DAT, The international disaster database

    • Freedom In the World Indexes.

    • OECD weather data.

  • Applied a series of machine learning models including LASSO and OLS to predict the amount of food aid delivered to foreign countries.

  • Engaged in collaborative programming workflows, using Dropbox to manage shared code, synchronize changes, and support team-based development.

Unified Agenda Project

  • Collaborated with another undergrad RA to fix corrupted XML files to complete a graph that previously had missing entries.

  • Used Xmplify (a web-downloaded app) to validate malformed XML files and identify errors within.

  • Learned to work collaboratively effectively with pre-existing file structure and code.

Crop Time-Series Project

  • Constructed a time-series dataset consisted of more than 50 years of crop production data in the US.

  • Used R to apply time-series methods, testing for stationarity, structural breaks and plotting graphs.

Teaching

Undergraduate Instructional Assistant, UC San Diego, Department of Economics (Sep. 24 - Mar. 25)

  • Facilitated the instruction of Intermediate Microeconomics (100B), Econometrics (120B) and Stata coding.

  • Performed regular academic duties such as exam proctoring, grading and responding to student inquiries.

  • Led 3 office hours per week and a 2-hour review session before midterms to support student's learning.

Group-Session Tutor, Reader/ Grader, UC San Diego, Department of Mathematics (Mar 25 - Mar 26)

  • Graded more than 300 weekly Probability homework and Exam papers

  • Taught courses ranging from Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Probability.

  • Facilitated the instructional team with exam grading, proctoring and organizing weekly office hours (2 hours per week).

Others

Agricultural Bank of China (Hong Kong Branch) (Jul 24 - Aug 24)

  • Supervised by the credit department staff and gained proficiency towards the fundamental process of issuing loans, such as drafting credit proposals and researching company performance statistics.

  • Analysed more than 60 credit proposals to monitor the client's credit score and overall performance.

  • Conducted research on government policy changes on various clients and evaluate their repayment abilities.
